1337 is not a Number chapter 4

Corey looked around. Still no sign of Jessica.
“Dude, she’s not going to come.” Justin gave him a friendly slap on the shoulder. “It’s almost time to go home, stop wanting her to show up. She’s probably ill or just cutting classes.” Corey sighed.
“I know, I know… I just hoped that she’d be here today… I wanted her to see the new me.” Ethan looked at him.
“Forget it, after what you said to her, I doubt it’ll make any difference.” Justin looked angry at him. “What, I’m just being honest!” Corey sighed.
“I know, I know… I really do. I’m a complete idiot, changing like this, and you’re right, she probably doesn’t care. But I just have to try it… I think I’m err…” At that moment the bell rang. Corey smiled relieved.

After school they all went to eat ice-cream at Becky’s. Corey wasn’t really paying attention.
“FREAKING HELL!” Everyone jumped in their seats. Corey looked around him, and saw a sight that made his heart skip a beat. Jessica was standing next to him at a table, a laptop in front of her. He wanted to stand up and say hello, but an Asian man walked towards her with two ice-creams.
“You okay?” he asked her. She smiled and accepted the ice-cream.
“Thanks. Yeah, I’m fine. Just died, sorry ‘bout the screaming.” He laughed and looked at her laptop.
“Got windows on it? Didn’t know you could play Morrowind on a Mac.” She grinned.
“Got windows, yeah. It’s my mom’s laptop, she needed mine for a presentation.”
“Ah… I see. She plays Morrowind too?” He winked. Jessica giggled.
“I’d wish! My entire family is one big gang of noobs. Only my nephew and me are gamers, the rest only plays Roller Coaster Tycoon, or stuff like that. I’m sure some play The Sims as well.” They laughed.
“Yeah, I know what you mean. Thank goodness I’ve got enough friends who like the same stuff as I do. Which reminds me, wanna come over and watch a movie tonight?”
“Sure.” She winked. “Nice way of asking, by the way.” He grinned.
“Hey, my next question was if you wanted to come early and join us for Dungeons and Dragons. As in, we’re starting in an hour.” She smiled happily.
“I’d love to! It’s been forever since I played D and D, I’m afraid I’m hardly entitled to my Dungeon Mistress shirt anymore…” He kissed her on the cheek.
“Don’t worry, you are. One of our players is everything but leet, but he wears an Evil L33t shirt, so you’re fine!” They laughed again.
“Yeah, that shirt is awesome. I wish I could buy Megagear empty, but then I won’t be able to Final anymore, and I’ll have to return my anime order. Which reminds me, I got you a copy of Cliff ‘Em All. I’ll take it with me next time.” He hugged her.
“I owe you. You’re the best ever, Jess.” She smiled.
“Thanks. Which movie are we gonna watch? Oresama? Advent Children?” He laughed heartily.
“I knew it! Omfg, you’re such a fangirl! Don’t drool too much, will ya? I just cleaned my apartment.” She poked him. “Oi!”
“Shut up you! Don’t blame me for that, blame Sephi!” He grinned. “And sorry for being such an extreme geek today, but I have the urge to geek out to such extend that I wanna watch all of the Star Wars movies in a row.” He laughed so hard people outside heard it.
“O my gods, that is bad, indeed. But how bout we save that for our next date? Tonight I want to be romantic. So we’ll watch Advent Children.” He winked and she blushed.
“You still won’t give up, won’t you?” He softly kissed her on the lips.
“Nope. I just want to heal your heart, if only for a little…” She sighed and looked away.
“Sorry, but Corey didn’t broke my heart, he shattered it.”
Corey stared at her. Was she being serious? Were his ears deceiving him? Was he dreaming? Whatever it was, it couldn’t be real. She couldn’t be a gamer – she couldn’t really like him. Not the real Corey, anyway.
“You’re really crazy ‘bout that guy, aren’t you?” The Asian guy looked at her with sadness in his eyes. She looked back.
“Kyo…” He smiled.
“I know, I know… We broke up, you’re not in love with me anymore… I know. I just wish you were…” She looked at the ground.
“If Corey really doesn’t want me, you’re getting another try. And he better be damn quick if he does…”
Corey blinked, stared, thought, and stood up. If this was his last chance, he was not going to ruin it.
“Is this quick enough?” Jessica turned around in shock. She looked at Corey and tears weld up in her eyes. Kyo looked at him.
“You’re Corey…?” The boy nodded. They looked at each other. “No offence what so ever, but this is what you left me for…? I was expecting someone like Kadaj or something, hearing all the things you said about him. …Jess?” Jessica was sitting on the ground, her head hanging low.
“Jessica?” Corey asked worried. She looked up, her face wet with tears.
“Why don’t you want me…? I almost worship you, can’t you see? I love your geekiness, I love everything you really are… Why do you do this to yourself? It doesn’t suit you… And I really liked your glasses… They look like mine.” Not understanding it, Corey walked towards her and sat down in front of her.
“What…?” She looked him in the eyes.
“I’m freaking in love with you! How blind can you be?!”
He blinked and smiled.
“Very, I guess. Blind to your feelings, blind to other facts… I think I saw you wearing a shirt of Mac Hall once… and another time, I think I actually saw you wearing a shirt that stated in-game names…” She smiled.
“Could be. My latest addition was Ore-baka. In leet.” She looked at his face. “…You okay?” Corey stood up and turned around. Michael and Ethan stared at them in horror. Jessica stood up too.
“Oh god…” Michael said at last. She frowned.
“May I ask what’s going on? What’s wrong with that name? I’m a Guardian in-game, and I-” Then Corey kissed her.
“Be mine,” he mumbled into her mouth. “Just be my gamegirl forever…” She cried again, but this time it were tears of joy.
“I will… Oh I freaking will!”

The next day in school, everybody knew they were together.
“Wow, I’ve never been so popular!” Corey laughed, wearing his old clothes again. His girlfriend grinned, caressing the necklace he bought for her in case he could win her heart.
“And I have never been more unpopular at this school! It reminds me of my old school… I was known as the geekiest girl in town, all the gamers wanted to date me!” She laughed and kissed him.
“Heh, and we all wanted to date you long before we even knew you were a gamer like us!” He got kicked by at least five of his friends. “Hey! Stop doing that every time you get jealous!” Jessica giggled.
“You’re such a weirdo! But you still haven’t told me why you acted so strange because of my Ore-baka name…” He smiled.
“I’ll tell you tonight, I promise. Just be online.”
